Peggy Crawford and her family relocated from Coquitlam to Sechelt a year ago and love the relaxed lifestyle the Coast has to offer. Peggy worked for years as a legal secretary and her husband as a storyboard artist for kid’s cartoons. They found a way for Peggy’s husband to work from home and they haven’t looked back since. Peggy and Dennis have a 2 ½ year old son named Aidan and are expecting a new addition this winter.
After working for 12 years in law firms, Peggy decided she needed a big change. She craved a creative outlet but couldn’t decide what avenue at the time. During her pregnancy with Aidan, she made a few items for the baby and also started making shower gifts for friends and family members that were having babies. “A relative leaned over to me during a shower and said "I think you are onto something here",” explains Peggy. “I decided to make a few samples, approached a store in North Vancouver, and since then I’ve been having fun experimenting with fabrics and designs that people seem to love.” “At first I didn’t take it too seriously. I just thought, well, its fun and if nothing sells, I’ve made some gifts for future baby showers!” People really responded to Peggy’s blankets and diaper/wipes clutches and her craving for a creative outlet had been discovered, Peggalish Baby Designs was born.
Peggalish Baby Designs carries 3 main blanket designs: luxury and light-weight collections are a modern quilted style - perfect for cribs, strollers, car seats, or lounging around home with a cozy snuggler. Receiving blankets come packaged in bundles of 3 and make lovely 'welcome baby home' gifts. Fabric prints and colours have been carefully selected to help stimulate a baby's sense of sight and touch while starting out in style. She has just added nursery throw cushions in two different sizes. She is slowly expanding her products to include funky, but practical, accessories. Check out Peggy’s website www.peggalish.weebly.com for more information and to order. Peggy Sue’s in Sechelt and Gibsons also carries Peggalish Designs.
Balancing life with a 2 year old, one on the way and as a business owner is not without its challenges. Peggy sees Motherhood as her top priority. “My thoughts are that even though I have started doing this on a very part time basis, by the time my son is in school, I’ll be able to dedicate more time to the business.” The early years go by so quickly and I don’t want to miss a beat when it comes to my son's development. I'm loving being at home with my son and not having to work full time. Peggalish is something I can start, stop, and pick up where I left off at any moment. I’m having lots of fun making beautiful things but the most beautiful thing I’m working on is my child.”
Peggy and her family love living so close to the ocean. “We find ourselves enjoying the simple pleasures with our son, throwing rocks in the water and discovering little treasures on the shore,” says Peggy. When she finds time to herself, Peggy takes great pleasure in coming up with inventive ways to use different ingredients in the kitchen. Peggy loves that she can be at home with Aidan and she can have some time to herself where she can be creative. “It’s very fulfilling,” explains Peggy. “Fabric shopping is addictive. I have to be careful. Good thing my husband is here with me to hold me back sometimes!”
