Jack and Jill Preschool
School Philosophy: The philosophy of our school and the Council of Parent Participation Preschools is that “play is the basic medium for learning in the early years”. Through meaningful play, children learn to express themselves, to develop a healthy self-concept, to cope with feelings and to solve problems. Basic social skills such as listening, communication, taking turns, sharing, negotiating and compromising are learned as children interact and play. Our purpose is to provide a high standard of play-based education for our children, as well as offering parent education opportunities. Our curriculum is presented in a play-based way. Sun Haven School –Tidings Newsletter-April 2009
School Philosophy: Sun Haven Waldorf School endeavors to meet each child at their particular stage of development. The school seeks to awaken, nurture and strengthen the child's imagination, intellect, and physical well-being. It also seeks to cultivate a reverence for life and a love of learning. Our Parent-Child program is for parents and their young children and is held in the pre-school room once a week. This Program is led by an experienced pre-school teacher and provides parents with insight and practical tools for the task of raising children. Parents accompany their children to a morning session filled with activities of creative play, song, verses, movement games, stories and puppet plays, baking, painting, and snack. Activities are presented in a rhythmical way to ensure that children feel comfortable and secure. Working together, parents have an opportunity to discuss topics that relate to parenting and education. Often, articles on Waldorf education are sent home so that families can learn more, complementing their experience.
Curriculum: Children learn about life, first by seeing and then by imitating what they see. In our Pre-School Program, great care is taken to surround the children with as many life-filled experiences as possible. The teacher and assistant engage in domestic, practical and artistic activities which the children imitate readily: baking, painting, crafts, singing, dancing, outdoor play and celebrating festivals to mark the change of seasons. Purposeful tasks such as preparing snacks, caring for the room and gardening help the children develop an awareness of working in a group. Our teachers take care to establish a rhythmic flow and creativity in the Pre-School so as to enhance the young child’s mental, physical and emotional development
